My paintings are done more spontaneously than my colored pencil drawings. Not only does the change
from drawing to painting keep me fresh, it forces me to make quick decisions with pigment and brushes or
oil bars.   I want the viewer to see the quickness of my brushwork as I race to capture the past’s fleeting
imprint on the present moment.

In my softly rendered paintings, I first layer color to establish harmony and composition. The dance of time
with form, space, and light are created with a rhythm of hard and soft edges. In the ambiguous areas of
shadow I create hidden imprints of the past by drawing over more loosely applied pigment. These textural
passages beckon the viewer to contemplate my impression of a swift moment in time.
